How I lean in the 'Lac

We alluded to it below, but let's make it official through moving pictures: The Troubled Griffin has officially lept over the great FreeDarko underseas monster. We've long been fans of his bizarre skill set, fragile mental make-up, and Kwame-like ability to always seem like he could still have his whole career ahead of him. This, though, is just too much. Like Artest's trade demand/Cam'Ron over the last few months (see here), or the practice of deriding this Knicks, there's no longer any joy or exhiliration in this. Shit is just sad, stupid, and well past the point of believing when no one else would.

Eddie Griffin is that junked out friend who, after a point, you just have to delete from your cell.

UPDATION: Contrast this with our man Billups, who can come back after taking several summers off and make it like the drought never happened.

Eddie grew up about 6 blocks from my childhood home.

He dunked on me (no great feat) when he was in the 6th grade (pretty awesome).

There was a huge bidding war among catholic high schools in Philly for his services.

He was a local legend by the age 13.

I don't know the dude, but I knew some of his people coming up.

I say this with no sense of jest or mockery, but this dude doesn't have long for this world.

His is a sad, SAD story.

I don't know what's more sad: EKG abusing this dude's civil rights, or the police letting him do it.

FD in-house lawyers, do you thing. . . can eddie actually be charged with anything? seems like the kind of attorney he can afford should be able to say that his statements on tape prove nothing, and that the cops failed to collect any evidence. worst he's got is a hit and run.

"wait, no, not a bentley."

he used to show up at the compaq center for games completely bleary eyed and smelling of ozium and pine tree car scent. seriously, his escalade had about 30 pine trees hanging from the rear view mirror.

honestly, i'm saddened, but in no way surprised.

joke floating around after he got suspended from the rockets the first for firing a gun at his girlfriend

"I'm not surprised he missed"

this happened march 30. they only charged him with driving without a license and inattentive driving. i'm pretty sure they can't go back and add charges now.

was TG on probation at the time?

i know this is completely off topic but...what do we think of joel pryzbilla? (and other free agents)

I don't see how that dude's civil rights were violated--b/c the cops didn't arrest Griffin? The fact that the police don't enforce laws against you, and I was there to witness it, doesn't mean that my civil rights are being violated. A court can't do anything to help that.

As long as the statute of limitations hasn't tolled, they can certainly (try to) add new charges against him. Probably not likely that they will.

I'm a little suspicious that this didn't settle before the lawsuit was filed, esp. since the St. Paul paper says they're only seeking $50K in damages...

If Leanord Little, defensive end for the St. Louis Rams can have 2-3 drunk driving accidents in the past 5 years and killed 1-2 people in the process can still be playing without missing time from the football field, i think griffen will be ok. It said in the story that he won't be charged with drunk driving. He was just having a good time and roughed up a car he can pay for 4 times over. Leanord Little killed some little kid's mom in front of them. Messed up shit.
