FreeDarko Pick: Father and Son Edition

Living for the weekend. This is how it shakes out and what you should be tuned to.

TONIGHT: Miami/New Jersey. Something very unfortunate happened over the past few years, which is that I think we have all forgotten about Richard Jefferson, and how important to the league he is, not to mention how FD--in an underdog way--he is. This may surprise some given his b!tch-like nature and his kind of high voice, but make no mistake, RJ is a bad dude. Watch closely, his badness is DECEPTIVE. Additionally, I don't think we've seen a full season yet of the deranged Vince-JKidd-RJ BIG 3 in action. Have we? Tonight against a sluggish Miami squad, we will witness endless possibilities...

SATURDAY: You know where I'll be. Magic vs. Timberwolves. Sure, I could cry this season away and drown in my own tears. But as KG becomes the disgruntled Yoda of the league, I get pleasure out of watching him pass the torch to the young fellas. And in this contest, the heir apparent is none other than God's Son. Sagebrush is in the air and the sky is a purplish hue. This event is going to be spiritual.

SUNDAY: Nuggets/Bobcats. Nobody knows what's going to HaPpEn!?!?! Bodies will be flying all over the court. Morrison will be glaring at Brevn Knight. Wallace and Melo will be schooling each other all day. These are two teams who are equal in terms of insane mental immaturity, except it should be noted that the Nuggets are on average about 5 years older than the 'Cats.

UPDATE: on some SI JINX SH!T, RJ GOES DOWN!!!....but forreal, speaking of SI, thanks to Kelly Dwyer for quoting Big Shoals on the Jamison profile over at Sports Illustrated Dot Com. Coincidence?

before awvee, rj was gilbert's original partner in looniness. in case no one's heard, it was jefferson who dared arenas to tell the draft interview board that his long-term goal was "to be an international pimp." gil did, and this supposedly precipitated his plummet into the second round.

J.R. vs. Wallace: that's some quality. i also want to understand diawara. some denver columnist wrote that "between j.r. and diawara, the mavs have one hell of a shooting guard"

Who of you has seen enough of Andrew Bynum to make a fair judgement? The reason for me asking is that Bynum said in an interview that growing up he idolized Tim Duncan. This strikes me as odd because a) there are far more enticing characters in the NBA to idolize and b) every young big guy wants to play like KG. So is there any Duncan in Bynum's game? Or rather in his personality (as far as we can judge right now)?

why life ends: i for some reason can't get nba's video player to work on my nearly brand-new mac, despite having reinstalled wmv and all that. whats interesting about this is that it forces me to rely to espn motion, which as of now only has highlights up for half of last night's games. surely there's something wrong with this picture. or lack of moving picture, in case someone else would be tempted to stain with the obvious.

Shoals-

Flip4Mac should solve the problem.

In other news, the "I'm a Mac" dude stepped down from his spokesmanship position. I might petition Jobs to replace him with Steve Nash.

How about Amare? 25 pts, 14 rebounds. Yeah, that'll work.

Yet, it somewhat pales in comparison to Dwight Howard's 21 pts and 22 rebounds against KG. That is just sick.

and everything pales in comparison to micheal redd's 57. After 15 in the first half.

Nice game.

holy shit! that's the first time i've seen the new ball change the outcome of a game. WIZ had this thing won with the old ball. i still don't understand it, but Simmons may be right about the reason for the switch.

maybe that's the reason he's ruining my fantasy team.

I know Yao isn't very FreeDarko, but he's put up back to back 30+ and 13+ games. He's dominating fools (and Shaq).

yeah, i'm not sure i've heard anyone announce it, but to argue that yao isn't the best center now is just willful ignorance.

and i think that as the season goes on and highlights like that vince carter shot accumulate, even stern is going to have to admit that the ball at least needs some tweaking.

I can see Bynum having some TD in his game. Think of Duncan, but a little stronger and no game 7 feet away from the basket. On the defensive end I think they're a little more similar. Bynum tries to swat anything that moves, and he uses both hands.
