In Case You Need Clone Us

Here's me, Big Baby, and Silverbird giving it our all at Gelf's Varsity Letters reading. My wardrobe is amazing, but only becomes readily apparent toward the end. That alone is reason enough to suffer through the gladness.

This snow in Seattle is really fucking with me, as are my dead-whale-like sinuses. So I will keep these two thoughts brief:

-I really, really hope Rajon Rondo doesn't turn into Tony Parker, because he's every day now getting closer to what I'd imagined he could be. It's almost making me enjoy KG again, somehow, like they connect on a special level when they make eye contact. And that will be the foundation going forward. Is it at all possible that Rondo is bringing out things in Garnett? Or is this all in my head, about context and connotation, and so on.

-The Felton to Golden State rumor: I could see Brown wanting Wright. More likely, though, is that he's after Randolph, for the same reason the Bobcats drafted Ajinca and traded for Diaw. He is rounding up all weird, confounding, multi-skilled big men to exterminate their kind once and for all. Larry Brown's last and greatest contribution to the league will be mass murder, even genocide, in the name of the Right Way.

Next to that, the Warriors playing three PG's at once, plus Stephen Jackson, seems trivial.

ULTRA-SUPER BULLETIN: It's being reported some places that I wrote that Farmar "doesn't look like a Jew." I never said that and never would. That doesn't even make sense, especially coming from someone who gets mistaken for a lot of things other than Jewish.

I love how I'm studying for IP right now, and IP issues are the first thing that come up in the video above.

I'm nearing the point where I might hold a telethon to get Nellie to play Wright and Randolph.

COME TO TEXAS BOYS.
As I'm reading through your book, I think it would be cool to have a chapter (or a post) on the Dirk/Steve Nash friendship.
Then comparing their careers.
As a Dallas fan, its always been an intriguing set of circumstances that brought the two MVPs to Dallas, and then to perpetually lose in the playoffs.
JUST A SUGGESTION!

Richard, I think that's an idea for an entire BOOK.

I don't see how Rondo could turn into Tony Parker, precisely because of the KG influence. The way Rondo:KG::Tony Parker-Longoria:Tim Duncan fits is astonishing, and kind of terrifying. It makes me think there should be more attention paid to style by osmosis, and interrelationships with players affecting how we perceive an individual's style to be. To me, that constant interaction between teammates is one of the most fascinating things about basketball. The Parker/Duncan takes it one more awkward step further by having them actually look similar to one another on the court -- at least as far as the whole same length hair and facial hair thing they've got going. I'd make a crack about pets resembling their owners, but that's sort of bordering on a regressive, big man-centric view of things, there.

This is also sort of getting to a point that I feel you totally nailed in the T-Mac, Vince Carter, and Stephon Marbury chapters of the Almanac (can we please stop simply calling it "the book"), but came up somewhat lacking elsewhere -- how does the narrative of a given player's basketball career shaped who they become as a person in every other aspect of their lives? The game is, at least for most players, the most important pursuit of their lives thus far, which means that at every moment of a basketball game we're watching ten gifted individuals struggle for Maslowian self-actualization on a parquet floor, in co-dependent and interlocking systems of interpersonal stylistic relationships. And I guess somewhere along the way, amazing happens.

I like to think that it is Rondo making KG better. Esp. in crunch time. Kg looks so confident offensively in the clutch. I just don't recall a KG like that at any other time in his career. It could also be that KG is simply more confident with a ring and the crew around him.

I have a unique ( i like to think so) take on Rondo. The knock on him is that he has no jumper. And this def. hurt the C's at times in the playoffs. But this factor is also what makes Rondo so exciting. He is forced to raise hell with his dribble, defense, and passing. He has to play one hundred miles per hour. It makes him so entertaing to watch.

Question...does he make the all star team this season? Ray, Joe Johnson, Derek Rose, DWade...Rondo?

If you Boston homers get 4 players in the All-star game i'm not going to watch it.

I was most def. annoyed when Detroit had four players in the all star game. I ask about Rondo because I want to know if fans from other places think he deserves to make. I rec. my own bias for sure.

Who are your guards from the east for the all star game Hypnotoad?

Not Hypnotoad, but EC guards:

Iverson
Joe Johnson
Wade
Rose

Maybe Devin Harris, if he keeps going as he has been.

Mr. Six,
Iverson over Harris? You could argue that Jameer Nelson is more deserving then Iverson right now. This isn't Right Way v. Wrong Way. Iverson is not getting it done, unless getting it done means forcing Stuckey into the classic PG mold.

Rondo is to Tony Parker like a Mini-Cooper is to a Vespa.

What does Westbrook do in the Rookie v. Soph game?

I must be a homer if Iverson gets in over Ray Allen or Rondo. Not even. And Devin Harris can kiss my Vince Carter.

PS anyone listening to Cool Kids?

I'm pretty super fucking late to this shit but, lemme just say, I can't get out of Cali quick enuf. W-men (I almost typed W-mean) this season are all kinds of terrible. That one time I was in a suite at the arena a month ago (I think), when the Pistons were in town--even THAT wasn't that much fun, despite seeing (a fat, tired) JR Rider maxin with a hot lady eating nachos and grabbin his big thighs (thru bigger jeans).

I cannot respond to everything everybody said above.

So I'm'a just address the post all regular like:
--Larry can eat a bowl of dicks if he steals Randolph and tries to wrangle his limbs into submission.
--"trivial"!!!!!!

That's it. That's all I got.
