It's Not Like I Faint Every Time You Touch...

I know that my hiatus from posting has been an extended one. No epic, as I eagerly anticipate today's edition of Thurl.

Moreso, I just couldn't dislodge my testicles from my stomach after Finley's dastardly move.

The Glove is a decent consolation prize. I think it tips the scales of destiny and fate more slightly in the Heat's direction. I'm staying on message.

Discussion may follow in the thread below.

dare i say that this might be the heat's best offseason move (well, next to re-signing udonis)? who is better at giving you 16 solid ring-driven minutes a night at this stage in his career?

THE GLOVE HAS GOT THE LOVE.

holy shit...upon pondering this for 15 seconds longer, I have realized that the Heat now have a WHITE CHOCOLATE/GLOVE PG rotation. ridiculous.

also, as long as freedarko is busy handling some behind the scenes bizness...thurl will be temporarily on leave.

i was going to delete that spam, but since it's about latin dating in response to an andreo post, i'm leaving it up.

I need to take Salsa Lovers.

Ok, if Thursdays is taking a hiatus. I'll rush my post, not quite sure how it will work out.

Anyway, yeah the Entertainment Factor just went up a notch.

i love how shitting on wally has become the acid test of nba credibility.

The NBA is in the age of the "posse cut." I'm sick of all this free agent bullshit and all these marquee players going to teams that are already title contenders to go and be a fucking bencher just to get a ring.

I used to love Gary Payton, but I was elated when his attempt to unfairly win a 'chip with the Lakers failed... same with Malone 'cept I never liked him. Now Payton is forcing me to root against the Heat. Oh well.

A Sixers v Sonics final this year is practically set in stone anyway.

should we blame this all on drexler? (first true star who had to completely solidify his HOF status by siphoning a ring off of dream). the "michael finley" rule will now make it so that there is a posse cut every year.

isn't this the age of the nba mix tape remix, not the posse cut? i mean, technically a posse cut should have like twenty people on there that no one's heard of who are of varying degrees of rawness, crappiness and mystery. the hawks will be joe johnson's posse cut.

The Hawks posse cut sounds like Freedom Williams, Me Phi Me, Candyman, Frost and MC Skat Kat...

Not quite "At the Barbecue".

OK, OK, "posse cut" might not be the best analgous term. I thought it sounded funny though so I went with it.

i agree that the phrase sounds amazing. . .am just saying that i think you've opened up a hip-hop/hoops can of worms that no one's ever really fucked with before. i awe you, curse you, and fear you for it.

i'm sure no one's even going to look at this, but does "live at the bbq" count as a posse cut? nas was already a street legend, ak is ak, and main source, it was their fucking album. for some reason, the epitomal posse cut to me will always be that song on odb's first album that lasts for 6,000 months.

but i guess that once upon a time, everyone in everyone's crew was fairly dope, so all of those tracks either now seem like all-star cutz or were at the time. plus no one was soooo huge as they are now, so the mixtape bangers with everyone and their mom on it didn't seem quite as earth-shatteringly stage and abnormal. it actually seemed like a team effort.

"who shot ya" was probably the turning point. everyone on there was a star. no posse.

See when songs like "Live at the Barbecue", "Scenario", "The Basement" that EPMD one with LL and Redman, came out they were called Posse Cuts. This was before the days when there were two guest stars on every track. I know the kind of posse cut you're talking about but that's not really the original definition.

Nas was only 16 on that track and it was first time on wax, maybe in QB he was a star but it's not like he was all over Rap Pages.

here's the thing. . .on "scenario," that was a star-making turn for busta, who out-shined tribe. and compared the tribe, l.o.n.s. were the ones needing the exposure (that's obviously their song, tribe's just living in it) (but is also the best thing they ever recorded) (i hate people who only shine on guest spots). there was an all-for-one, no man is an island, equality is might, thing to them.

if you had to ask me what embodies those more, a shitty song with all the artist's friends on it or a made for hot 97 remix, i'd say the former.

i was always under the impression that by the time bbq was recorded, nas was already the talk of at least one borough. that was just his national coming out party.

i also feel the need to point out that i was around for the original definition of posse cuts, i just think it's changed somewhat. in case anyone thinks i'm fourteen, or am a twenty-seven year-old who started listening to hip-hop when a friend loaned me a sage francis/will oldham split 7"

I guess I don't know what constitutes a posse cut anymore. I just wanted to name some garbage mc's and dis the Hawks. I wasn't making direct player to mc parallels. I was hoping as a bonus some dude would say "Me Phi Me was a major influence on the Late Registration sketches" or "Kid Frost was an important contributor to the West Coast Latio hip hop community" or "I have a whole garage of Hip Hop shit DJ Shadow has never even heard of".
