WE GOT IT 4 CHEAP, VOL. 2

It's been a minute since we hit you with the classic FreeDarko tees (which are still available, by the way), so we thought it was time to change it up and come at you with a new look. A lot of people misunderstand our mission and think we're all about Darko, so we thought we'd pay a little tribute to one of the players we actually like.

By now, most of you should be familiar with the newest body deco choice of our site's true signature player. After long hours in the lab and a major, major photo assist from Lang and Sam at SLAM, PCA has immortalized it on our new shirt along with what we hope catches on as Gil's new nickname (or motto).

These are printed on top quality American Apparel shirts and are now available for pre-order for $18.00 each, including shipping. All paypal orders may be sent to: tito[at]email.unc.edu. For all other orders, send us an email, and we'll figure something out.

NOTE: We're going to let this post sit at the top of the site for the rest of the week, but watch for us holding it down at Deadspin, here and here on ESPN.com, previewing the Spurs (!) with Mutoni on SLAM, quoted by NBA.com, and elsewhere as the season draws near. Also don't miss us interviewed by Chicagoist, having our new tee sung about by Borat, and gifting Gerald Wallace our firstborn.

Yes, you read that correctly—Jamie Mottram offered Gerald Wallace my firstborn, rather than keep it for himself.

CHANGING THE GAME LIKE THE SYNTHETIC BALL!

BONUS: In related blog garments news, don't think we're even close to knowing what to make of Skeets's Halloween costume:

appreciate the clipse reference, if it was intended as such, which also raises the question...

are the clipse the most freedarko in the rap game right now?

undeniable street cred combined with lyrical superiority and gothic beats + fact that it has taken 2+ years to get their label to release their album?

I will wear this with pride around the Verizon Center.

GHOSTFACE KILLAH

undeniable street cred combined with lyrical superiority and raw, soul-infused beats + abstract, borderline nonsenical lyrics + funny aliases

Big Juss circa 1996 may be the most freedarko rapper of all time.

Deltron 3030 - Amazing flow, complete disregard for what everyone else is rapping on or making sense.
Nas - Amare like in the power of his first album, but has not been able to dominate in the way he seems capable of.

oh wow. you guys are not only the premiere basketballness blog, but i think that you have just usurped the sartorialist as the best fashion blog.

i am a little confused as to the translation of the actual slogan, and i speak spanish, so maybe this is the point?

clipse are awesome but not nearly as creative as some people think. ghostface isn't even on the radar.

killer mike or david banner. there's your freedarko rappers.

For those wondering about the meaning. (Scroll down a little. And yeah, I had to look it up.)

The shirts are tight ... but I just got my v1 not too long ago ... do I really need another? Probably.

11:21 Anon, thanks for the love. But as for the meaning, Six is right: it reaches into the depths of idiomatic expression while giving us a brief, though incomplete introduction to the man who will be keeping us writing for the next 3 trimesters.

Lots of love to the Zohar reference in the deadspin article.

The shirt is great, and even harder to explain to any outsider.

wait, this new shirt is more esoteric than the jewish mystical tradition?

I think that was the fastest movement from seeing something online to logging into Paypal since I saw a pair of deadstock 9.5 Air Maestro I's on eBay two years ago.

I read your stuff on espn and nba.com and didn't even notice it was FD until now. I feel bad for you guys on deadspin though. The kobe piece was well done and serious in tone, and all the comments went something like "lol rapist lol." The shirts are nice though. I feel like going out and buying some nice apc denim to do the shirt justice.

Yes, Gerald Wallace said "Free Darko." Link in the updated post.

Two things you should know:

1. Access is the final frontier for bloggers, and it's especially weird to see what happens when we don't have to get dressed up for the occasion.

2. Just when I thought Wallace couldn't be any more important to my NBA cosmology, it turns out he's a fully-sponsored Gatorade fiend.

you really should give Jamie your first born. it's up to him if he wants to share with G-Wallace

Man, they're locking up a lot of NBA athletes . . .I know Gil and TMac are also Vitamin Water guys.

Did the Cavalier from Yay!Sports dress up as the cavalier for Halloween?

I just got home from making the rounds at some Halloween parties and a guy showed up dressed as a peacock, with huge feathers all over the place. At that point whatever costume you had on is inadequate.

that article was my saturday night. this is less crazy, novel arenas, more "is he the only one they can write real stories about?" arenas.

i guess also iverson, garnett, jo have compelling life narratives, but all those involve trial-through-fire criminal cases.

Wow, that video accompanying the Gil piece was amazing. Well done by the Post all the way around.

And crazy that he had to lay low to avoid getting served with a subpoena at the freethrow line.

So will the next shirt be We Got It 4 Cheap: The Re-Up?

And I'd like to second the nomination of Killer Mike. I am not qualified to serve as an arbiter of what is and isn't freedarko, so I won't champion his cause as the -est of the hip-hoppers, but the dude can rhyme and he actually tries to say something of note.

Now, back to Doctor's Advocate...

I always thought that Del Tha Funkee Homosapien was the most freedarko of rappers. Unrealized potential, and except for that one track on the Judgement Night soundtrack, unknown to the mainstream.

Killer Mike has a nice little mixtape out that I've been bumpin'. I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind, or something like that. It's got the bloated track listing, and the mostly unremarkable posse shine doled out to his mans an' 'em, but Mike can rip it.

Joe Budden is getting Darko'ed by DefJam & Sdotcarter.

Darko will never be dope, Budden is doper than 95% of his peers in his league.

Budden may be the most Free Darko. He sampled the NBA on NBC theme AND made a reference in a verse recently to "knocking on wood like Hank Gathers' head".
