Best NBA Art Collection, Pt. 7629

As you should all know by now, the Masters of the Klondike are as interested in the eccentric private lives of NBA players as we are in who wins the Eastern Conference Finals (I say Pistons in 7). So, I must share with you what I have recently learned about Milwaukee Bucks wing Desmond Mason. You may know that he was a studio art major at Oklahoma State, and that his favorite artists range from Michelangelo to Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. But, did you know that not only does he appreciate art, he creates art himself! Last year, he had exhibits in Seattle and at the Bresler Eitel Gallery in Milwaukee. I haven't found too much information about his art collection, but he plans to open a gallery once his playing days are over. I'm not sure where this puts in him the contest for Best NBA Art Collection, but he's got to at least be in the conversation with FBP, C-Webb, and Grant Hill.

I have no issue with Dez being a philanthropist (hell I'm even a Bucks fan), but the stuff on the wall looks like it could have been done by schizophrenic children.

one of those jernts is obviously a jackson pollock bite, and the rothko influence is pretty strong on the others. but, i still think it's pretty cool that he paints at all. i wonder what kind of music he listens to.

i think it goes without saying that all nba players have horrific taste in music. the best you'll probably find is some marvin and donny hathaway. that's FBP, hopefully. actually, dude probably listens to bird and trane to tighten up his game.

see, doesn't that look ridiculous when i type it?

more importantly, what the hell is going on up in seattle? i can't tell if this is unbelievably borugeois (thanks, starbucks and the endless chain of commodification) or mildly hip and creative. like, do dez and FBP hit up chelsea when they're in town to play the knicks?

also, congratulations for setting the all-time freedarko record for most links in one post. just when i'm moving away from then, on principle.

this was a largely research-based post, not opinion, so i had to give some linkage. some of those articles talk about how dez is a music and film buff, too, so i am curious. i bet he listens to neo-soul or some shit. but, who knows, if he's into abstract expressionism, maybe he's into jazz.
