I probably have some shit to say about Suns/Nuggets, not in the least because I've totally left the Warriors bandwagon for the Nuggets (sorry, that's where the crazy is). But I missed the first half of last night, and there's tonight to contend with, so we'll see.
Worth noting that, while the second-half Suns were more unfettered and exhilarating than anything since GSW 2007, and Shaq does fit in, Nash just isn't as fluid with the Big Tomatillo out there. Whatever, Amare is amazing and should get a ring. I think Krolik has some Amare/Nash thoughts coming, so expect this site to soon thunder with Suns content like it was 2005.
BONUS: Excerpt from a Pitchfork interview with the Black Keys, which only proves that BASKETBALL IS NOT BANDS I CAN'T FUCKING STAND:

Black Keys was one of those bands I wanted to like. I don't feel that way so much any more. I feel a little bit freed. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'm trying to think which stars Cavs traded away before they became stars. Sure, Kevin Johnson (which wasn't a huge loss considering they had Mark Price running point and got Larry Nance back) and I suppose Ted Stepien's first round picks would qualify as "trading away star players before they actually became stars", but since then, who? Who wouldn't trade Terrell Brandon for pre-lockout bulge Shawn Kemp? The only player who could remotely qualify is Disagana Diop.
Really though, anyone who thinks Rasheed Wallace is an awful man is an awful man himself. Rasheed Wallace would be what Jesus Christ would be if he were born in 1975 and grew up in Philly.
I'm guessing he's referring to Boozer. Not a trade, but whatever.

ReplyDeleteNash getting a ring would be awesome, but it would make Amare even more insufferable. Dude is amazing on one side of the court only. One of the most amusing things I've seen from ABC's miked-up series is Alvin Gentry consoling Stoudemire after Rasheed hits a turnaround jumper on the baseline over him. "Don't worry about it, nobody in the world can guard that shot," Gentry said. Maybe so, but Amare just stood there and didn't do ANYTHING to contest the shot. Lol, Amare.
I don't know why Phoenix and rings are being mentioned in the same breath anyway. Even if they could somehow get past your pick of San Antonio, Utah, LA or New Orleans, they wouldn't beat Boston or Detroit.

ReplyDeleteThe NBA and its stars are huge, known entities - what FreeDarko does is think about it in new ways and emphasize overlooked elements. Pitchfork takes tiny entities and (deserving or not) either big ups them (sometimes turning them into relatively huge stars, ie Arcade Fire or Clap Your Hands Say Yeah) or dashes them into the fickle, fickle dirt. They seem like opposites to me.
gh: Cat Power loves Ben Wallace. It was in one of the umpteen million cover stories she got when The Greatest came out (not trying to say she's no good, but she reached full saturation right about then). She says she likes him because he "looks like a fucking king." The quote stuck in my mind.

Shoals, take this as a sign: If you're ever feeling spread too thin, you can always pop off a few bullet points, pull the indie rock card out the pocket, and the comments take an automatic spike whilst you nap peacefully.

Many, many eons ago, I went to a decidedly-not-indie Presidents of the USA (NOT MY CHOICE I SWEAR) concert in Raleigh, NC. I don't remember much about the concert except the singer (I think) wearing a Nate McMillan Seattle Sonics jersey, which was kinda awesome, simultaneously repping their own hometown and big upping a Raleigh native. I was probably one of four people who got the significance.
ReplyDeleteThe pitcher in question is Dock Ellis. He actually did pitch a perfect game while on acid. What happened was he got confused about what day he was scheduled to pitch; he thought it was friday, turns out it was wednesday. There's a really good book about by the poet Donald Hall.
